Sailors had again the opportunity to learn more about the wind from North called Bura. It was more stabile than the first day, but still very shifty and especially gusty. Wind varied in strength 11 to 18 knots, at one point the Race Committee measured even gusts of 22 knots. To comfort the participants that is usual for Bura, the most unpredictable wind in Croatian waters. Local crew, Matija Longin and Pavle Kostov, after a bad start at day one, improved their performance and with a 3rd, 2nd and 5th place took the top place, which of course was loudly celebrated in SC Uskok.
- Wind was very much like the day before. First two races were easier to sail than the last one, it was much harder to score a fifth place in the last race than a second in the race before. I hope that tomorrow we will finally have some sun and Maestral, see breeze from the West - says Longin. Yesterday was a good day for Italian crew Pressich/Bua, who finished first in races 5 and 6.
- Today was a beautiful day, the wind was good, more stabile than yesterday, much better than yesterday. We hope to have this kind of wind next few days - told us Mattia.
Greek team Tzanidakis/Paleras will not remember this day like a good one, although they were very fast in last two races. Instead of scoring two great results, they've scored DNF and OCS. In the 5th race they were leading the group, but just before finishing a judge penalized them for pumping, so they retired. They finished first 6th race, but their joy did not last long. Another Greek team did well, Vassilas/Mitakiz, now placed third.
- We had good races, the third was little bit strange. It is just semifinals. In the finals everything will change. I hope that we will have a good start in the finals and continue good racing. I am certain that it will be very difficult in the finals - thinks Mitakiz.
What to say about the girls?! Four general recalls for the first race yesterday, inspite of the black flag, resulted with 18 BFDs. After that fifth attempt was succesfull. British team must be very satisfied with three teams in top 6.
- The Race Officer was kind on the first 2 starts with postponments but when the black flag appeared the girls were still pushing the line. There is great depth of quality in this fleet and it will be a high scoring regatta. Anyone being consistently in top 10 could take the title - commented the GBR Ladies coach.
And here what Pippa Wilson (GBR 51369), helm of the first European team for the time being, says:
- It was very shifty today, and pretty tough conditions, first one was better than the second one, but it was kind of people coming from both sides. The last one was really, really close, all the way to the finish. We had a good day. Racing is tough in these conditions so we are trying to be consistent. We made a few mistakes, we'll try to cut down the mistakes and be consistent. Mary Rook (GBR 51234) was also happy.
- We had a really good day today, we were really fast and we liked the wind. It was quite shifty, but good fun. I hope it stays like this. We had too many starts, four recalls, but apart from that it was a brilliant day.
German girls (GER 51352) Silke Hahlbrock and Marion Rommel are placed fourth after four races.
– Racing today was better for us than first day. We had bad starts on the first day and really couldn't get through. Today the starts were better, we had nod OCS or BFD, so it looks good. We could have been a bit better today, in the first race we've wanted to take the second mark as the first, but we still finished 5th - said Silke.
First place overall is now in the hand of Kempton/Storck (USA).
- The breeze was very nice, not too light, not too windy. I think it is really nice here in Croatia. First few days was very hot, but I think it's perfect now. I think it is a great sailing area - told us Kaity.
