DAILY REPORT 25.07.2004 It was a really long day at the sea. Obviously the Race committee had every right to worry about the weather-change that was announced a couple of days ago. Old famous fact proves itself from one to another important event - as soon as racing begins wind forgets all the usual canals of flowing. Sailors spent almost eight hours at the sea. Luckily it was not that hot as previous days. And luckily enough the effort was not in vain- 3 races for men and mixed crews and 2 for women crews. Conditions were really hard for everybody, sailors aswell as Race committee. RC had to move the course threes times, there were many general recalls, especially in the girls' fleet. Notorious black flag was the only cure for them. The fact that boys' fleet is leading a crew that has scored two sixth and one fourth place says enough about today's racing. Congratulations for first places goes to 8 crews: Tzanidakis/Paleras (GRE), Cherin/Valicogna (ITA), Longin/Kostov (CRO), McGovern/Frazer (GBR), Konstantinidis/Vattis (GRE), Hemmeter/Hemmeter (GER), Hills/Webster (GBR) and Favretto/Mocnik (ITA). Jury had only two protests, but one very interesting. Jury protested on Austrian sisters Sattler. Reason-sisterly argument came to blows yesterday in their 420. The hearing was last evening, but the Jury decided to give their final «verdict» this morning. George Vassilas (GRE): We were not consistent enough to be in the highest place, as we planed for the qualifications, but it was good. The organization was very good, although I heard some sailors complaining that boys and girls got mixed up. Weather is like in Greece, very hot and warm. We like Croatia, but today was a little shifty, very different from previous days. Nobody knew everything about the weather today, because it was from the North, only the Croatians knew. Capodanno/Papa (ITA): This is a good place to do a race, but today the weather was bad. The other sailors are very good. Medina Ruiz/ del Castillo (ESP): The race was difficult because the wind was difficult. The other competitors are very good. We are more or less satisfied with results. We can do better. Dohse/Ziegelmayer (GER): Racing was good. These are very good results for us. The wind was ok, shifty but enough. Roberts/Martin (USA): I think it was very good race, exepct for maybe more seperation between the fleets because we seam to be getting mixed up in the women's fleet. The weather is great, it's nice and worm, the wind is great, I'm very happy with the results. Zeni/Petissi (ITA): We did very good in the first race, we finished second. We had a good start, we arrived fourth to the first mark, then third on the next mark, and managed to advance to second place. In the second race we had a problem with the spinnaker and lost some places. All in all not bad, we'll see tomorrow. Oliveira da Silva/Gois (POR): It was very difficult to race, because the wind was very shifty, but we have good results. In general we are satisfied with the results. Race committee did a good job. Favretto/Mocnik (ITA): Today was a very beautiful day. The wind was nice, the race was very good,we are happy with the results. Martin/Walsh (GBR): We had one good race and one not so great race. It was difficult today because we weren't used to the wind conditions. When we were training it was a lot lighter and completly different. It was very tricky and shifty. Mills/Webster (GBR): It was good, fun sailing, but it was really shifty and gusty aswell. So it was very difficult to know where to go every step of the beat, but it was good fun. We did not expect to be winning. Jordan/Mueller (GER): It was a long day, it was very hard to sail, but that was good for us. The weather was very different compared to previous days. There was much more wind, strange wind. |
